NON SQUID related question

This question is not related to squid:

        As part of the MRTG monitoring package (which I am using to
monitor my squid server :) I would like to use the 'echoping' program to
measure response time of squid. However, the 'echoping' program dumps core
everytime it is run on my BSDI 2.1 machine. The same code runs just fine
on a Solaris 2.5.1 box. Anyone had any luck getting echoping to work
correctly on a BSDI box?
