Well, the standards say all sorts of things, but there's no "have to"
about it in practice, apparently. Some proxies set it. Some don't. It
can also be faked if you want to appear to be coming through a proxy (or
proxies) but aren't.

It's handy to have, mind you. I rather wish more proxies set it.
