Beginner Squid questions

I've installed Squid 1.1.22 on RH Linux 5.1 and have gotten it to work.
However, I'm having problems doing the following:

1. Getting the cache port to be port 80 (Yes, I've removed Apache
webserver). Squid says it can't access port 80. (I'm not a Linux guru
either). I want to redirect port 80 traffic from a Cisco router to the
Squid box.

2. I've followed the directions in the Squid User's Guide and have not been
able to get Squid to automatically start at boot up. I get a "missing
process field error".
