        You didn't transfer it in ASCII mode!

        If, for some reason, you are forced to transfer in
        binary mode, the best solution is probably to
        use pfe (Programmers' File Editor), but write and
        wordpad will also cope with Unix format text files,
        although only pfe will save them in Unix format.

        (Samba has options for transferring in ASCII mode, but they
        make files unseekable, which will break some applications.)
