You read the FAQ. According to what's written there, changing the number
of file descriptors under Linux 2.2 requires a single command - and the
beauty of learning how to look up questions in the FAQ is that in future
you can get answers immediately instead of waiting for someone on the list
to read your e-mail, look up the relevant section of the FAQ and compose a
reply that then has to be delivered to your inbox, which you may not read
immediately... see how much time and effort we can all save? Not to
mention the fact that if the very generous people who maintain the FAQ
think it is being ignored, they may decided not to update it any more, and
an invaluable resource would be lost.
