Compiling squid 2.3stable4 on solaris 8 x86

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone has successfully compiled
squid 2.3 STABLE4 on SOlaris 8 x86 platform? I am
using gcc 2.92.2 but it keeps complaining that :-

checking whether the C compiler (gcc -g) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

I am trying to get it working with LDAP as well, so any guide
would be most appreciated.
