Async-io: verdict?

Hello to all,

I have been reading about optimizing squid performance and all articles
related to the subject indicate usage of async-io. However, this list
seems to repeatedly indicate that async-io is troublesome. What is the
concensus of using async-io on a Linux 2.2.16 platform, 2 18GB 10K SCSI
disks, Adaptec 2940 Ultra2 SCSI, 512MB ram, Squid 2.3STABLE4.
