[squid-users] Optimum Child Proxy Settings in squid.conf

Does anyone have any suggestions on changes from default settings for Squid
2.5-Stable13 for the following situation?

The server is forwarding just cache miss requests to an upstream
parent
The upstream parent is a pair of squid boxes that are configured for
CARP and are accessed using DNS round-robin
A T-1 needs to be crossed to get to the parent.
T-1 bandwidth conservation is slightly more important than up to the
minute accuracy in the cache
The OS is SuSE LINUX 10, hardware is Dell PowerEdge 1400 (single
933MHz P3 CPU, 512MB RAM, 20GB IDE)
The server is not a transparent cache or a router
The server is not used for any other purpose other than Squid
Number of users being serviced is between 200 and 300
       Local network is 100MB/s switched

Some settings I’m already using are
cache_peer (FQDN for the parent proxy pair) AUFS 8000 16 256
(cache dir)
            acl mynetwork src 10.0.0.0/8
            always_direct allow mynetwork
            never_direct allow !mynetwork

Any help is appreciated
