Squid is an HTTP protocol proxy. It does not proxy ICMP control protocol.
Squid background processes can only _use_ ICMP to detect best source for
things under certain circumstances.
Whatever problem you have with ping is due to your operating system and
networking configuration. Probably a firewall somewhere.
