FTP with IE 3.01 and Squid :-)

Is anybody using IE 3.01 with the proxy configured? HTTP works fine, however FTP stops at the first Kilobyte of the file!
Someone suggested to set "quick_abort off". It works, however this is too expensive in terms of Internet bandwidth. Is there a fix for this?
