Automatic browser configuraton

Dear squidders,

I wan't to help our employees configuring their Web browsers correctly.
I know that this is easy for Netscape browser through 'automatic proxy
configuration'. In fact, I managed to create such a configuration file.
But I'd like to understand the contents of such a file.

I'd apprecheate any pointers to such description.
