        Changing the DNS resolution is not really a good idea, as the
browsers that already connected to it, will keep the DNS address of the
proxy cache for as long as they are connected and the browser is not
reset.

        If you really need to set up a backup squid while you work on
another one, you can use the gated program from TIS firewall toolkit to
redirect the requests on your proxy port to another machine. It is kind
of unwieldy, but simple to create a perl script to do the changes for you
once you have everything set up properly.
