squid doesn't proxy the pop3 protocol and there probablu *is* no route to the
host, if you're using squid as your way out of a firewalled private network?
You may need to get your net guru to install a pop3 proxy. (Any generic
TCP proxy will do if everyone is calling the same pop3 host)
