To stop squid if my host is going down for reboot, i send RunCache
and Squid a SIGTERM. This works for me.
I use this script to do this (and even to start squid):
------------------------------------------------
#
# Startup script for Squid cache daemon.
#
state=$1
set `who -r`
case $state in
'start')
if [ $9 = "2" -o $9 = "3" ]
then
exit
fi
if [ -x /var/proxy/www/squid/bin/RunCache ]
then
echo "starting Squid Object Cache"
/var/proxy/www/squid/bin/RunCache &
fi
;;
'stop')
pid=`ps -u root |grep RunCache |awk '{print $1}'`
pid2=`cat /var/proxy/www/squid/logs/squid.pid`
/bin/kill ${pid} ${pid2} 1> /dev/null 2>&1
echo "Squid Object Cache killed"
;;
*)
echo "Usage: $0 {start|stop}"
exit 1
;;
esac
