As previously covered on this list, that didn't seem to be true.
Various Realaudio/Realplayer versions do make HTTP/1.0 requests, and
thus do allow you to configure an HTTP proxy, but they use that mainly
for requesting a '.ram' file which contains the pointer to the '.ra'
file.
The very latest versions (4 and above), when talking to latest version
servers, can sometimes request the actual streamed file via port 80,
but this request comprises a POST to find the URL to request, and then
some form of computed URL which has a query (?) in it and whose result
isn't cacheable.
(It's fairly easy to see this process if you point your own RealPlayer
at a cache).
Others have already addressed the 'proxying RealAudio' query - and the
code that RealNetworks provide has worked for me right from their
version 2 up to the latest video stuff.
