squid-1.1.17(proxy_auth)

I had installed in my debian 1.3.1 smoothly and running flawlessly, after I
rebooted my server, it prompts me for password authentication while I do not
want this feature, in my squid.conf file I had had proxy_auth points to
/dev/null, after /etc/init.d/squid reload, I got this message "FATAL: can not
open htttp port", what does this error means? So I reboot my box again and it
does start this time, but it still prompts me for password authentication,
what else should I do to disable it? as I read the squid.conf, it says that
proxy_auth is compiled into squid as default by debian.

And what is the redirect_program and redirect_children for? do I need them?

TIA
Kusuma
