I am new to this mailing list, squid and Linux (it's been an interesting
time learning...)
I have looked everywhere I can think of, but I cannot solve a problem very
similar to this one on my Linux server. I am running squid 1.1.20 on a
RedHat 5.0 box (Kernel 2.0.?).
Despite the line:
cache_effective_user squid squid
(with the squid user & group created), I still get the
"Squid is not safe to run as root! If you must"
"start Squid as root, then you must configure"
"it to run as a non-priveledged user with the"
"'cache_effective_user' option in the config file."
"Don't run Squid as root, set 'cache_effective_user'!"
error when it is run as root. This is not great -- I want to run squid
automatically at startup...
Any help would be appreciated.
