The best approach is to stop being frustrated, propose and contribute
the code you think Squid lacks. If coding is impossible, you can pay
somebody else to do the work. If paying is impossible, submit a
constructive summary of the features you want and wait patently for
somebody to get interested and implement them.

Squid is moving towards more modular design. Hopefully, in a little
while, some of the missing features you mention will be easier to add.
