Yet another WCCP question.... I'm sure you guys are getting tired of these!
:)
I have read and reread the FAQ, mailing list histories, any and all web
sites that I can find, and picked as many brains as I could before taking
this step...
I think I have Squid and router properly configured. I'm using the ip-wccp
module, and can get the router to acknowledge the cache. I can get the
packets to redirect to the squid/linux (2.2.16 kernel) box, and that's where
everything comes to a standstill. I can't see the squid box going out and
retrieving objects from the world. I have seen this situation in this
newsgroup countless times, and I just can't get the thing to work. It works
fine as a proxy, just not a WCCP-based cache. In a desperation move, I've
even put the squid/linux machine on a different subnet, with no change.
4 questions:
a. In a couple of the posts to this mailing list, I noticed that the Cisco
command "ip WCCP web-cache redirect-list 161" was used in only one instance.
Is this a local (for that particular site) configuration issue, or should I
try this also?
b. If the Cisco is directing all traffic from port 80 to the Squid machine,
what happens to the packets that the Squid machine itself tries to retrieve?
Why doesn't an infinite loop occur, or is the Cisco router smart enough to
allow the Squid box through without redirecting (my guess)?
c. Any guesses as to when Cisco will release WCCP v.2 to the free world? :)
d. Anyone know of a really good website relating to this?
If anyone wants to see my configs or command, or the Cisco commands, lemme
know... Don't want to include them here because of space.
Thanks
