[SQU] How to make my Proxy or Cache more FAST.

Dear All,

I am using squid proxy ver: 1.2 and I would like to make the cache or squid to work as fast as it can. Please can any body let me know how to configure it or tune it in right way.

One more thing: Can any body let me know which version of squid proxy should I use on LINUX ver 6.0 ( Red Hat Mandrake )...? As I am trying the above proxy but it is very very slow. Please let me know what to do.
