[squid-users] Transparent caching without proxy

Suppose squids sits in the gateway to the Internet in a network.
Is it possible to configure in such a way that it does caching but
doesnt act as a proxy
I mean, if it is a hit, it delivers the content from cache
But if it is a miss, the http request goes from the actual ip request
came from,
and not from the ip of server running squid.
