The thread you quoted explains the problem very well. The browser does not
know that there is a proxy in between because in an interception scenario
you do not configure your browser to use a proxy. So it would be
"surprised" to see a proxy authentication request. It's not a decision of
the Squid developers (they would probably code it in if it were possible)
but a matter of facts.
