Maybe the SLES init scripts have the same bug as the RedHat scripts and
gets confused if there is a stale pid file around..
Are you running a binary supplied bu SuSE, or one you compiled yourself?
If self-compiled, which rc script are you using?
If the SuSE vendor RPM then file a bug report at SuSE for this issue.
The rc scripts is part of the vendor packaging, not the Squid project as
such.
