Most likely it's using select() with parts of the epoll code also
active, and this maybe due to you not bootstrapping the sources.

the epoll patch do change configure.in, which means the result of
running configure will not be the expected if you have not bootstrapped
the sources..

but it could also be that the patch did not apply proper on your tree.
There must not be any rejects from patch.
