do you run 32 or 64bit OS? 32bit OS probably can't use more than 2GB of RAM
per process. However, 2GB of cache_mem is too much imho, if you use disk
cache, lower cache_mem to 1GB or 512 MB and let OS cache the rest of data
(cache_mem only caches data fetched from servers, not data fetched from
disk).
