I just installed Squid 2.6 Stable 9 on a Ubuntu Linux server. I have
found an interesting problem...
I'm the sysadmin for a high school, and we have multiple DNS search
suffixes. Running "ipconfig /all" on a Windows computer gives me:
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : schools.dist.leon.k12.fl.us
dist.leon.k12.fl.us
leon.k12.fl.us
k12.fl.us
fl.us
All of these are needed, since we use a lot of short/internal URLs in
use, some of which are dotted, for example:
www -> www.leon.k12.fl.us
www.leon.leon -> www.leon.leon.k12.fl.us
Is there any way I can "tell" Squid or Ubuntu about these short/internal
URLs? I see that search_domain can have only one suffix...currently,
going to these short/internal URLs gives me this error page:
The requested URL could not be retrieved
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www/
The following error was encountered:
Unable to determine IP address from host name for www
The dnsserver returned:
Name Error: The domain name does not exist.
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.
