After a pleasant Sunday of hacking I think I have finalised a functional
transparent proxy package for Linux. It's got the main stuff included like
reverse DNS lookups and some nice command line options. The README file
has instructions on how to drive ipfwadm on Linux to make it all happen.
One thing that has become apparent when I got this working, is that a lot
of the bigger sites like www.netscape.com don't set the reverse DNS mapping
to this name. It seems that for every large site out there they have a
different way or configuring their DNS names.
The software is available at the following URL:
ftp://ftp.nlc.net.au/pub/linux/www/transproxy-0.1.tgz
Cheers.
